DESCRIPTION:The Pinellas/Hillsborough Interfaith Coalition\, LWVSPA\, and our allies host a peaceful Freedom Vigil to stand in solidarity with immigrant families and demand an end to the detention and deportation of our nonviolent\, law-abiding immigrant community neighbors\, siblings\, and friends. These vigils shine a light on the erosion of due process and the rise of authoritarian overreach. We pray for family reunification and justice for all immigrants. DESCRIPTION:(Moved from 9/23) \n\n\n\nHave a question for Sheriff Gualtieri? Immigration Justice is collecting questions from League members ahead of our October 15\, 2026\, 9:00 a.m. Pinellas County Jail tour led by Sheriff Gualtieri. Submit questions about immigration justice\, ICE detention and 287(g)\, local resource allocation\, jail conditions\, or voting access and civic participation. Submissions close September 30\, after which tour attendees will review and vote on the questions to submit to the Sheriff. We will also document his responses and report back to the broader League. Submit as many questions as you like HERE \n\n\n\nThe Pinellas County Jail is where people arrested through local immigration enforcement efforts\, including those subject to immigration detainers under the county’s 287(g) program\, may be held. Understanding what happens inside the jail—and how immigration enforcement intersects with local jail operations—is an important part of understanding our role as community members and civic advocates. The jail is publicly funded and operates under the oversight of our elected officials. Visiting the facility gives us an opportunity to better understand how these policies affect our community\, ask questions\, and engage our local officials in their responsibility to exercise oversight. \n\n\n\nThe tour is limited to 12 people. PETE IS CANCELLED DUE TO THUNDERSTORMS. \n\n\n\nUnfortunately\, Mother Nature has made the decision for us!  \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nAfter weighing our options\, we made the difficult decision to cancel this event. Your safety is of our utmost concern.  \n\n\n\nWe considered postponing until later in the day\, but if you’ve ever been to the beach after a rain shower\, you know it can quickly become a steamy\, hot mess! We also considered moving the event to Sunday\, that would mean missing the national No Kings day of action.  \n\n\n\nThere are still opportunities to come together! \n\n\n\n North Pinellas Indivisible is holding a rain-or-shine event at 9 AM in Clearwater on the Duke Energy Trail Overpass over US 19 and Frontage Road.
