Thanks to the support of Florida Supervisors of Elections, SB228 (Online Voter Registration) was passed by both houses of the Florida Legislature this past week. Here in Pinellas County, Deborah Clark, our Supervisor of Elections (SOE), and 66 other SOEs from every county in Florida have worked to educate our legislators on the unimpeachable merits and convenience of the online voter registration application.
Their efforts led to a groundswell of bipartisan support by the public and by our state legislature. All agree that online registration will significantly reduce the cost of paper registrations and facilitate more access to voter participation. With the passage of this bill, eligible Florida residents will be able to register to vote online from home at their convenience or while living away from home at college or for military service.
Supervisor Deborah Clark and her staff have set a high standard for excellence in Pinellas County in providing helpful online voting resources and access to voting through Vote by Mail, Early Voting, and extended hours on Election Day. Enactment of Online Voter Registration will further enable all eligible residents to exercise their right to vote.
SB228 (Online Voter Registration) will be on Governor Scott’s desk in the weeks ahead. We thank Governor Scott in advance for his support of online registration for Florida’s future voters.
