Have a question for Sheriff Gualtieri? Immigration Justice is collecting questions from League members ahead of our October 15, 2026, 9:00 a.m. Pinellas County Jail tour led by Sheriff Gualtieri. Submit questions about immigration justice, ICE detention and 287(g), local resource allocation, jail conditions, or voting access and civic participation. Submissions close September 30, after which tour attendees will review and vote on the questions to submit to the Sheriff. We will also document his responses and report back to the broader League. The Pinellas County Jail is where people arrested through local immigration enforcement efforts, including those subject to immigration detainers under the county’s 287(g) program, may be held. Understanding what happens inside the jail—and how immigration enforcement intersects with local jail operations—is an important part of understanding our role as community members and civic advocates. The jail is publicly funded and operates under the oversight of our elected officials. Visiting the facility gives us an opportunity to better understand how these policies affect our community, ask questions, and engage our local officials in their responsibility to exercise oversight.
