Pinellas County Jail Tour: Immigration Justice Action Team

Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) has invited the League of Women Voters of the St. Petersburg Area to tour the facility again on September 23 at 9:00 a.m. Tour may last as long as three hours and involves a lot of walking.
The Pinellas County Jail is where people arrested through local immigration enforcement efforts, including those subject to immigration detainers under the county’s 287(g) program, may be held. Understanding what happens inside the jail—and how immigration enforcement intersects with local jail operations—is an important part of understanding our role as community members and civic advocates. The jail is publicly funded and operates under the oversight of our elected officials. Visiting the facility gives us an opportunity to better understand how these policies affect our community, ask questions, and engage our local officials in their responsibility to exercise oversight.
