Civic engagement, designed for caregiving life.
The Parent Advocacy League — PAL — is a family-friendly civic engagement group built through the League of Women Voters of the St. Petersburg Area. We exist because parents and caregivers shouldn’t have to choose between raising their families and staying engaged in democracy.
We gather at playgrounds, parks, and family-friendly spaces around St. Pete. Kids aren’t just welcome — they’re expected. Arrive late, leave early, nurse a baby, be distracted. Imperfect participation is the whole point.
What we do
PAL is action-oriented, not just a discussion group. Together we:
- Call and write to our representatives
- Show up to rallies and protests as families
- Organize for school board and city council meetings
- Host a banned book storytime for kids while parents engage
- Stay connected on issues that affect our families — immigration, reproductive rights, education, voting rights, and more
The League also provides free professional childcare for parents at major LWVSPA events so you can participate fully.
What PAL members are saying
“The parent group makes it possible for me to meaningfully engage politically with my busy full-time schedule. I feel more energized to make change, am expanding my community, and my kids have a blast.” — Jenny B., PAL member & Reproductive Rights team member.
“PAL is a safe space for me to vent, brainstorm, and take action to make our city, state, country, and world a better place for our families and for all.” — Rose G., PAL member & St. Petersburg business owner
Stay in the loop
PAL doesn’t have a fixed monthly schedule — we organize events, meetups, and actions as they come up. The best way to stay connected is to join our Google Group, where we share updates on upcoming events, actions, and opportunities to get involved.
