Stop Redistricting

Florida Legislators: Wake Up! Drawing new voting maps for partisan gain is contrary to our state constitution. State legislators must resist the national push and say “No” to partisan mid-decade redistricting in Florida

Any attempt to draw new maps in Florida right now is a direct response to the President’s call for gerrymandering to benefit Republicans, and that is illegal under Florida’s constitution. Florida voters overwhelmingly supported the Fair Districts Amendments (2010) to ensure that Florida’s voting maps are drawn fairly and without partisan intent. Redistricting mid-decade for partisan purposes is illegal under the Florida Constitution. If Florida leaders follow the national push for partisan mid-decade redistricting, it would ignore the will of Florida voters, violate the State Constitution, and waste millions in taxpayer dollars.

Legislators should reject any attempt to draw new voting maps before the 2030 census.  Our leaders should be focused on doing the job they were elected to do: lowering costs, raising wages, and creating a more affordable, brighter future for all Floridians.

More on Gerrymandering

Partisan gerrymandering distorts and undermines representative democracy by allowing officials to select their voters, rather than voters to select their officials. Gerrymandering runs counter to the principle of equal voting rights for all.
