Our Voter Registration volunteers had a busy season leading up to the Aug. St. Pete Mayor and City Council Primary election. They attended 21 community events in 31 weeks prior to the Aug. 24 voting day, ranging from DMV van days at Daystar, Tampa Bay Collards Fest, PrideFest Family Day, Breakfast on the Deuces, Not My Son gatherings, Junior League Care Fair, Juneteenth festivals, Saturday Morning Shoppe, and the Voting Is Power Block Party, among others.

While volunteers found that many residents were up to date on their registrations and vote-by-mail requests, they engaged in important conversations around the importance of local voting. Volunteers shared hundreds of flyers and information cards with key facts about the Primary, new vote-by-mail rules, and information about our popular online Voter Guide.

Two days after the Primary, volunteers attended a busy USF Civic Engagement Fair to engage with students who may be interested in becoming student League members and volunteers for our various committees, including Voter Services.

The Voter Registration team will take a well-deserved break for a few weeks, and then kick back into high gear with lots of activities around National Voter Registration Day, Tues., Sept. 28. Beginning Sept. 24, VR teams will be out at Eckerd, USF and all SPC campuses, including Downtown, Midtown, Gibbs and Seminole. Our north county counterparts will cover the Clearwater and Tarpon Springs campuses. Volunteers will offer voter registration and address update help, as well as speak to several classes about the importance of voting. Additionally, volunteers are teaming with partner Feeding Tampa Bay to attend food pantry events at Mt. Zion Progressive Church and Tangerine Plaza. An email call for certified voter registration volunteers to help with all of these events will be going out soon!
