Election Protection

You can help make sure that every registered voter is able to cast a ballot that is counted. Sign up to be a nonpartisan Election Protection Poll Monitor!

Election Protection is a nationwide program that recruits, trains and deploys thousands of volunteers across the nation. These nonpartisan volunteers serve as voters’ first line of defense against confusing voting rules, changed polling locations, and needless obstacles to the ballot box.

LWVSPA’s Election Protection program is open to all League members and any members of our Pinellas County community who want to support voters. Here’s what you need to do:

Sign up as an Election Protection volunteer.

Attend a 2-hour Zoom training (in early August).

Pass the quiz and sign the nonpartisan agreement.

Sign up for a 4-hour shift during Early Voting or on Election Day.

During your shift, you will be stationed outside of a priority polling location in Pinellas County to assist voters and observe for any issues that are hindering people from voting. You will have support the entire way, from a command center of Florida election experts and from the volunteer lawyers who staff the nationwide 866-OUR-VOTE hotline.

We do a lot of work as the League to register and educate voters, and to help get out the vote. Election Protection Poll Monitors help make sure that all those folks we assist all year get to cast their ballot. And the data that Poll Monitors gather enables voting rights organizations across Florida to advocate for better access to the ballot.
