How to engage with the League
St. Petersburg residents approach the League all the time with the same question – how can I get engaged in my community? Use these resources to learn how to get involved in a way that works for you.
What are different ways to engage?
There are many ways in which the League engages with the community and strives to promote a healthy democracy. These are activities that you can participate in, often without leaving the house. Here are five ways that you can make a difference – today – even if you lack time, money, resources.
The League’s History of Engagement
Since 1939, the LWVSPA has increased civic engagement in the city of St. Petersburg and Pinellas County. We are called upon during election seasons and throughout the rest of the year to help voters make informed decisions and learn about the proposed policies of the local government. A few of our notable activities include:
-
Voter Registration:
We work tirelessly to encourage people to vote and make sure they are registered accurately. This increases participation in our democracy. -
Voter Education:
The best voters are informed voters. Through voter education, St. Petersburg residents can feel confident filling out their ballots. -
Candidate forums:
The League has a strong history of leading candidate forums in our area, helping residents decide who to vote for in local positions. -
Advocacy:
The League advocates for issues that will better society with informed, nonpartisan resources. -
Inclusion:
We strive to ensure everyone is able to participate in this democracy and make their voice heard.
