Helen Huntley, LWVSPA Donor & Volunteer
I was interested in the league for several reasons, including the fact that my neighbor, Terry Rimer, is active. I don’t like feeling helpless when our Florida legislators try to control women’s bodies and restrict the right to vote. By supporting the league, I feel like I can actually do something about it. When I attended my first in-person and virtual activities, I was super impressed with the energy, dedication, and leadership ability of the women I met. I helped collect petitions to put abortion on the ballot and will continue to be active in the effort to get it passed. I contributed to the year-end fundraising drive because I want to support the work of this great group. Until I read about it in the newsletter, I did not realize that I needed to donate directly to the St. Pete chapter to make the most impact toward our local efforts.
A native Floridian, I grew up in Dunedin and have lived in St. Petersburg for 50+ years. I was a journalist for the St. Petersburg Times (now Tampa Bay Times) for 37 years, and then an independent financial adviser for eight years. I am now on my third (unpaid) career as a docent at three of our beautiful museums-the Museum of Fine Arts, the James Museum of Western and Wildlife Art, and the Museum of the American Arts and Crafts Movement.
