Reproductive Rights

About us

The LWVSPA Reproductive Rights Action Team works in Tampa Bay to affirm and advocate for equal and safe access to the full range of reproductive health care – from abortion to birth control to evidence-based sex education. The group works to increase participation in the reproductive rights movement in the Tampa Bay area through visibility events, letter-to-the editor campaigns, and educational films, discussions, book studies, and forums. Forming ongoing relationships with state- and federal-level elected officials, as well as local public health officials, is a priority.

Members participate in a monthly in-person meeting at the League office in downtown St. Petersburg the second Thursday of each month.  Members are also invited to participate in a monthly LWV of Florida state-wide conference call open to LWV members from all over Florida and is held on the second Monday of each month at 12 noon.

Request to join our LWVSPA Google Group listserv here. Contact Action Team Chair Stacey Kroto to receive instructions on how to join our local team or the monthly conference call.

Birthright ~ A War Story

Saturday, February 23, 2019 at 1:30 PM – 4:30 PM
St. Petersburg Main Library
3745 9th Ave N, Saint Petersburg, Florida

See the film that tells the stories of women across the U.S. under siege. Every day, their ability to make their own decisions about their bodies, health, reproduction, sexuality and childbirth is under attack. Political, religious, corporate—even governmental—factions in this country are waging a war on women’s health. And, they’re not just battling over abortion.

THIS IS THE REAL LIFE HANDMAID’S TALE.

Followed by panel discussion. Snacks will be served.

Sponsored by Pinellas NOW, LWVSPA Reproductive Rights Action Team, and Planned Parenthood.

Send an email to get Comprehensive Sex Ed in Pinellas County Schools

This has been a goal for our committee since its inception and now momentum is really moving. The community collaborative working on this, Empowering Pinellas Youth Collaborative: Community for Comprehensive Sex Ed, of which our action team is a part and which is led by 2 of our action team members (Linsday Grove and Julia Sharp), has developed an easy way to reach all board members at once.  Just follow the link and send an email now:  https://act.progressflorida.org/letter/epyc-sexed/
